Pupil premium is additional funding schools receive to close the achievement gap between pupils in certain disadvantaged groups. Funding is based on children who have been eligible for free school meals at any point within the last six years. Funding also takes into account pupils who are currently or previously in care.

Pupil Premium at Woodmansterne Primary School
We have high aspirations for all the children in our school community and believe that all children should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. We seek to provide personalised learning opportunities and targeted support to allow every child to flourish.
As we recognise that not all pupils who are academically or socially disadvantaged are registered for free school meals, we reserve the right to allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil, or group of pupils, identified by the school as being at a significant disadvantage.
Our priorities at Woodmansterne are to narrow the gap for those pupils not on track to achieve the expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2. We aim to narrow this gap by identifying areas for development and additional needs that the pupils may have. Identified pupils participate in a course of one to one or small group intervention programmes. In some classes, extra adult support helps to facilitate and promote accelerated learning. Ongoing staff training takes place to ensure that quality first teaching and learning is delivered to our pupils.
We also utilise Pupil Premium funding to offer pastoral support to families. Examples of this include; provision of free milk, free embroidered school uniform when the child first joins the school, plus support in paying for additional enrichment activities considered on an individual basis.
Sports Premium funding is a government initiative to support the expansion of sporting opportunities for primary pupils.
