Forest School

We are a Forest School (accredited to Level 3).

Forest School Accredited Badge

Forest School is based on the process of learning through the environment. It develops a relationship between the learner and the natural world. We promote holistic development of our learners by building confidence, resilience, independence and creativity. We provide our learners with the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and themselves. Forest School takes place regularly and becomes an integral part of school life.

Our Forest School programme is planned on the basis of observations and work between the learners and the practitioner. Children are encouraged to direct their own learning, which involves the Forest School practitioner being a facilitator to create learning opportunities in the environment.  The sessions will develop the learners physically, mentally, verbally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our Forest School programme monitors the impact of our learning in the environment. Together, learners and practitioners develop the knowledge and skills to sustain our site for the future.

During Forest School sessions, children have the opportunity to:

  • develop their interpersonal skills
  • take informed risks
  • form positive relationships
  • explore the outdoor environment in a safe environment
  • learn about the area, including the wildlife
  • learn new skills e.g. how to build a shelter
  • solve problems
  • work as a team
  • use tools to create, build or manage
  • discover how they learn best
  • pursue knowledge that interests them
  • reflect on learning and experiences
  • develop their language and communication skills
  • improve physical motor skills
  • have fun!
